Today I am reminded of the scripture that the spirit is willing but the flesh is weak. Today I wanted to deeply to go into Sunnyside Mall in Bedford and share my faith with those whom God brought across my path. I struggled deeply with the courage to walk up to a complete stranger and start a conversation along some point in the natural and then swing it to the spiritual and bring a witness for Jesus. I recently heard Penn (of Penn and Teller) say when talking about Christians and sharing their faith. He said "if you truly believe that there is a heaven and hell and that all who do not know Christ are going to hell. If you believe this statement to be true but do not share your faith or proselytize that person how much do you have to hate a person not to try to save them from hell. He said if he saw a truck coming toward you and it was bearing down at some point he will tackle you to get you out of the way of danger. The belief that those who are going to hell and how terrible that place is how much do we have to hate someone not to tell them of the way of salvation.
This statement has been haunting me all day. It is not hate for the lost that stops me but fear of man and fear of being made a fool. Fear of not doing the gospel justice, not presenting it in the way that the gospel deserves to be presented. These are men and women's souls that we are dealing with and the care it takes is great. I need to remember that God called imperfect people like me to use for His glory. He can take my 5 loaves and 2 fishes and feed the multitude. The boy with the lunch just gave what he had to Jesus and He did the rest. Let this be an encouragement to us that God can take our insignificant and make it significant for Him for His glory and not ours.
I come home tonight and was a lot discouraged and disappointed in myself. I have such a huge desire but my flesh is weak sometimes and gets in the way of my heart. I felt compelled I had to go out again tonight and make another attempt at sharing my faith with a total stranger so I did just that. I went down town on Spring Garden Rd, Barrington St. and some of the side streets. I was encouraged to give out about 20 tracts and had good conversations with 3 different people. Bought a homeless man, Ray, a coffee and spoke with him for 20 minutes or so. Michael and George got to hear the gospel that they can know for sure that they are saved from hell and know for sure that they are going to heaven. Those who took the tracts said that they will read it later. I trust God will remind them of what they said to me.
